Event Report

So, another round of the championship has come and gone. Another frantic afternoon trying to cram in as many enduro laps as possible within the 90min time limit. And this time, there were a few upset results thrown in for good measure.

The mornings championship racing was a slightly different affair than normal, with only a relatively few of the main runners and riders in attendance, there were points up for grabs for pretty much everyone and with a good selection of fast guest drivers also gunning for glory, it was fast and frantic.

The early qualifying and first races identified that there were a couple of karts that were super quick and a couple that needed to be avoided! However, the pace was red hot right from the beginning. Over the 2 morning races 5 drivers dipped below 41 seconds. These times are usually reserved for the end of the enduro. In fact the fastest lap of the day was turned in by Ben at 40.20, which is the fastest recorded csma lap to date.

Once the racing had shuffled itself through it was time for the finals. This time, instead of splitting down the group into A and B finals, everyone went out in a huge staggered grid for a 30 min session. With the fastest drivers nearly a complete lap down from the slowest at the start, it was going to be hard work for everyone.

As it all shuffled out, Rob found himself out front, with Oli 2 seconds back and then James and Tony a further couple of seconds back. Dave G pulled off a stormer in the middle weight category racers with Kevin T next best. Front runners Alan W, Terry C and Chris H all had bad results leading to gaps being reduced through the championship tables.

You can check out the latest standings on the Championship page.

With the individual races all done and dusted, it only left the afternoon endurance to round off the day. With the staggered grid, it took a while to wind out into a running order. The racing was good there was action through the relatively small field. At the flag, Terry and James ended up crossing the line first, John and Alan W followed 4 seconds back and Laura and Simon completed the podium. Gary and Rob can count themselves unlucky to have only missed the podium by 0.6 seconds.

Overall the day was another great example of the close and fair racing that the club prides itself on. With only 2 or 3 spinners throughout the day the marshals had a day of sunbathing.

I think special mention has to go to the poor chap who had to mow the entire grass surround to the track using perhaps the smallest mower known to man. I'm not sure what he had done wrong, but it must have been pretty bad to deserve that punishment!

Finally, fastest lap of the day went to Ben, with the fastest ever recorded csma time of 40.20. Oli was also down below the previous record with his time of 40.25 and Alan W found himself in the unusual position of only managing 3rd fastest time at 40.59.

See everyone at Shennington.
