Event Report

A mixed bag of results from our annual trip up to Shenington raceway. The Shenington track is an absolute blast. High speed, technical and always leads to close
battles. The karts, however, are a little bit of a lottery and this showed with the sprint race results in the morning.

With practice, 2 qualifying races and a grand final each in the morning there was lots to get through from the championship point of view.

It quickly became clear that there were a number of karts that were a little faster than others around the track and getting assigned one of those was a good start to
your race! However, it was also evident that the better drivers could eek the last few tenths out of even the weaker cars.

All the early pace was being set by Laura and Rob, who were getting down into the 56s laps with the majority of others in the 58-59s bracket.

As the dust of the early races settled a number of big names were left only having qualified for the B final. Tony had had a 1st, 2nd and 3rd in class over the previous
events, so being down in the B final was unexpected. Drew, joining us for his second championship event of the year, also isn't a regular B finalist. However, with the
customary top 2 finishers moving forward to the A final, there were still opportunities to save the day.

The B Final itself quickly spread out and the result wasn't really in question from about lap 3. Dave P using the rapid kart 7 to good effect, building up a 16 second
gap at the finish. Mark F dragged a slightly slower kart through to second place, 8 seconds ahead of Drew in 3rd. Dave G and Gary were in close attendance of Drew and
the two Hambleton's filled the last two spots.

With Tony left licking his wounds and wondering just what happened, the A final started without him for the first time.

The A Final looked like it was going to Laura. She was certainly setting the page with a 56.5s lap. However, a mistake into the mid-lap chicane meant that Terry, who
had remained in-touch with Laura during the early part of the race, took full advantage. Laura finished the race just 4 seconds behind Terry and Andy ended up 4th. Not
far behind Andy was M1 in his super-kart and Ian and Dave having a great result to aid their championship points.

Full championship results and standings after the event are on the Championship page.

The afternoon endurance race was the standard weight adjusted affair - with a kart lottery held to make sure everything was fair. The race itself spread out relatively
quickly, with lots of drivers time-trailing for most of the race. However, with no pit lane timing screen to monitor progress - nobody really noticed and it was just a
case of trying to hunt down any kart on track - or defending off any kart looking to get past.

The result saw Drew and Chris ending up on the top step, followed by Terry and Gary D in 2nd and finally Team Hambleton in 3rd place.

Fastest time of the day went to a spectacularly fast Drew Goodspeed on a 55.76s. He assures me that Alan W wouldn't have had a chance at getting close to the time.

The next karting event is the Festival of Karting at Rye House on 4th August. Entry forms and details are all on this site - see you there!
