A new location for CSMA Karting and with 40 eager drivers all ready to go, the banter in the morning was as noisy as ever.

The weather was nice and clear and would remain so all day. The perfect recipe for great racing.

Again, it was fantastic to see some new faces as well as the regulars. There's been great support for our events to start this year off and we really appreciate your support.

For some, the morning practice/qualifier was the first time out on this track. For others it was first time out in a kart! This meant a wide range of lap times. 10 mins certainly wasn't enough for me to find the ultimate lap, but enough was learnt to make for some great racing in the first races of the day.

Race 1 and 2 were frantic affairs. The first half lap of each race saw a huge clump of drivers all fighting for position. The track certainly gave rise to close quarter battles throughout the field.

Drivers needed 10th place or above to qualify for the A final and we did see some regular A finalists slip into the B final this time out.

For Oli, finishing 10th in his first race only just saw him into the A final. If he'd missed the cut, his championship challenge this year would have been dealt a serious blow.

Before the A final, it was the turn of the B finalists to take their grid slots. Andy R made the most of his front row start and lead the first lap. However, Dave G was right on his tail and looking for the lead. It took another lap for Dave to find a way through coming out of the final hairpin and sneaking up the inside into turn 1.

He then proceeded to disappear up the track and had stretched to a 9.5 second lead by the checkered flag.

Andy's race was far from over though. With Dave through into the lead, he had a fair number of laps in a comfortable 2nd place and I'm sure was wondering where everyone else was. However, there were clearly some quicker drivers that were making their way through the field after a disappointing earlier race and it was just taking a little time for them to unpick themselves from the pack.

A very fast trio were approaching and the action was frantic. Philip O'B had made his way from the rear of the field and had caught Andy by the end of the race. However, he couldn't make a pass stick and Andy just held onto second place a mere 0.1 ahead of Philip over the line.

However, the battle a little further back was even better. Ian Davey had a stormer of a race to finish in 7th and the pack behind were in close company. Mark B in 9th was only 1 second ahead of Gary P and somehow, between them were another 3 karts! Great stuff.

The A final was certainly exciting over the first couple of laps. From where I was sitting (mid-field) there was all sorts of "maneuvering" going on. The bumping did settle down after a while! But it's only right to say that none of it was anything other than fantastic close racing. Oli W made a great start from right at the back of the field and somehow made his way through the jumble of karts to be top half of the race by the end of lap 1. He made further progress through the field through the remainder of the race and found himself in an impressive 4th place by the end of the 20 min final. Ahead of him, Drew was a further 7 seconds up the road and Alan Williamson another 3 in front of Drew. However, neither were able to stick with the pace of James "Ayrton" Ockendon, who put on a highly impressive show at the front of the field, finishing 7.5s clear of everyone else. Speaking to Alan W after the race, I definitely heard some fear in his voice for the clear speed of this new to CSMA driver!

Through the field, there was some great racing going on. However, we had a dead heat for 6th and 7th! Finishing just 0.4s behind Michael W in 5th, Fern and Tony H just couldn't be split down to the 100th of a second. Both coming in 19.64s behind the leader.

Disappointing days for some drivers who found themselves in karts that just didn't have that last little "oomph" that is needed when things are this fast and furious. But it's keeping the championship close and open.

I'm sure everyone is looking forward to Lakeside already - and being only a few weeks between these events, we haven't got long to wait!

A really good afternoon enduro followed. AG's masterful team selection (pull em out a hat and hop for the best...!) saw a brilliant balance of teams.

100 minutes of fast, frantic action saw the closest winning margin I can remember... just 0.74s.

Gary M and M Webb JUST making it past the Ian Davey/James O kart on the final lap. The result finished off a fantastic event for James O and I'm sure everyone will be keeping a close eye on his progress through the year. Ian D also had a brilliant event, finishing 2nd in the enduro. He was also fastest in his class... (but then as someone rightfully pointed out, he was also slowest in his class as well).

3rd place was taken by Terry C and Rob S. Terry retrieving something from a day which saw a disappointing finish in the A final.

The first 5 karts were still on the same lap after 80 laps of the track and the following 7 were only 1 lap back.

Well done to all that attended. I had a great day at a new track and I hope that you all enjoyed it as much as I did.

See you at Lakeside.
