Another wet one. Just 20 drivers for this 4th round of the championship, but that did meant that there were good points on offer for those taking part. The lakeside track has great facilities and the nice warm club house was a welcome break from the wet and cold outside!

The wet always mixes things up and today was no exception. There was a wide spread of speeds in the practice/qualifying sessions - covering nearly 10 seconds per lap. However, this is to be expected with people new to the track and some new to the track and to the wet!

It's not until you've tried karting with slicks on a wet track that you really understand how slippy things can get.

Just to highlight how everyone got down to the pace, by the first race, the spread of lap times was down to just 3 seconds. Impressive stuff from those learning.
Kevin started a good days racing with 3rd in his first race and James O set down a scorching pace, 1.5 seconds faster than his closest rival.
The B final saw a dominating performance by Steve Kerr. He finished a full lap clear of the field. His times we're fast but Dave B actually posted a faster lap during the race. A lack of spins/issues showing that speed isn't everything, especially in these conditions.
Dave B finished in second and Gary P collected 3rd. With the relatively low numbers at the event, all three drivers were promoted into the A final - something that Steve K would probably rue later!
The A final started with a lot of close and frantic action. There were issues throughout the field as people lost traction and were sometimes helped along the way! Still, considering the conditions on track, it was all great stuff.
James O got off to a good start and I don't think was bothered until the chequered flag. Oli made a great start from mid pack and snuck through the field. Chris following up to 5th. However Oli made it quickly past Dave G, whereas Chris got stuck and it took multiple laps plus a spin and recovery to eventually make it past.
Dave Benns was running well through the race as well, however, this was all scuppered by a high speed spin through the tyres at the bottom of the hill.
Oli made it through to 2nd by the end of the race and Chris to 3rd (and setting the fastest lap on the way).
Dave G got 4th and an impressive Kevin W with his best ever result of 5th.

The afternoon for this event was slightly different! Instead of a team enduro, we instead had a 45 min ironman individual enduro! I'm sure in the dry, this would have been a killer, but with the wet weather it was a really great opportunity to get some serious laps under the belt.
Through the race, the rain had stopped which did mean that track was getting faster. However, at mid distance, this extra speed saw multiple off's. At one stage we had full course caution with at least 3 incidents being cleared up!
In general though, the standards in these difficult conditions was very high.
Oli W came out victorious and set the fastest lap of the day en route. James O came home 2nd to wrap up another highly successful event for him and Gary M took the final step of the podium for a good result after a difficult A final which included a spin.

In the championship, things have been stirred up a fair amount with some regulars not taking part and some great results for others.

Another new track is up next and by all reports, it's going to be a cracker. Can't wait. See you there.
