Shenington - The downpour that never was
Memories of the flooded Rye House event last year came back to me as I watched the news reports of half the country being submerged under water during the days leading up to Shenington. Surely we wouldn't be lucky with the weather this time?

Traveling up to the Shenington track, near Banbury, for the first time, the skies were looking threatening. However, on arrival, it was grey and murky, but at least dry!
It was great to get to a new venue and also a different type of track. Shenington is a fast, technical track with maintaining momentum being the key.

You'll have to excuse my lack of results for the event as I am missing some of the printouts and those I do have are fairly indecipherable! If anyone wants to fill in some of the gaps for the A/B/Enduro finals, then send them over (chris@csmakarting.co.uk).

The morning was again taken up with the usual practice, qualifying, heats and finals for individuals. There was the usual range of battles taking place throughout the field in the finals. Dave M once again came in first for the A final. I think that's 3 times in a row now! Surely someone can stop him!! Trailing Dave in the final was a welcome newcomer to the group, Phil Smith with Andy R taking the final podium spot.

In the B final, Robert took top honours followed home by John Y and Rob R.
One thing that was clear throughout the day was that we've been spoilt with the great karts at Whilton Mill and the new fleet at Rye House as there were some sizeable difference between the performance of some of the karts at Shenington. Apparently the karts we were using were originally used at one of Alan Prost's karting centres - but I think it's fair to say that some of them had seen better days.

Keeping the karts running was probably the biggest challenge for the enduro teams with nearly every team having to come into the pits at some point or another to change their machinery around. This did rather lead to nobody knowing what the results were until the final presentations.
Once the timing computers had done their thing, making the best use of the machinery were Drew G and Robert A. Second were Ian W and Nick B and taking the final podium place were the young pairing of Oli W and Luigi.
I am informed by the man himself that Alan W succeeded once more in achieving the fastest lap of the day. Must be all the practice he put in at the track ahead of the event!
Absolutely amazingly, the weather held off for almost the entire day. A few drops fell every now and then but considering the state of some of the country, we had good luck with the weather.
Our next event is a huge one talking place at Rye House on 13th August. 12 hours of karting action including individual racing, enduro racing, Novice sessions, women only sessions, junior sessions (from 4-16!) and 2-stroke sessions. It's going to be a great day out for everyone in the family to try out motorsport in a friendly and relaxed environment.
See you there!
