Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Are there any restrictions on who can enter an event?
A: Our events are open to all CSMA members over the age of 16. We sometimes have slots available to guests of CSMA members but this must be agreed with the event organiser before entering. At some of the tracks we visit, we may allow someone under 16 to race so long as they are over 65Kg in weight. Once again, this must be agreed with the event organiser prior to entering.

Q: I've never karted before. Can I join in?
A: Absolutely. Our events are designed to cater for drivers of all abilities - from absolute beginner right up to seasoned veteran.

Q: What kind of karting events do you run?
A: Through the year, we run on both indoor and outdoor tracks. These events normally take place on Monday's. The outdoor events generally take place through the daytime starting at 9am and ending at around 5pm. The indoor events are usually run in the evenings from around 7pm to 10.30pm.

Q: Do I need to bring my own equipment?
A: No. At all our events, we provide all the karts and safety equipment you will need. All you need to do is turn up. Sensible clothing and shoes to wear would be jeans/track suit, long sleeved top and trainers. If you do have your own equipment you would like to use, then you are welcome to do so.

Q: What type of karts do you use?
A: The karts are all supplied by the tracks we visit. They are usually4-stroke twin engined pro karts at our outdoor events and single engined zip karts indoors. Very occasionally, we will also run practice sessions at our outdoor events using 2-stroke karts for those wanting to taste the next step of the karting ladder.

Q: How fit do I need to be to kart?
A: To get the full value out of the CSMA events, you should be of a reasonable level of fitness. You should not kart if you have heart problems or any other disability which would stop you from driving on the road. Our full days karting outdoors can be quite hard work on the arms. Indoor events are generally a lot shorter and therefore less strenuous.

Q: How much track time can I expect?
A: Outdoors, our regular track day consists of individual sprint races in the morning. As a guide, this usually consists of 10 mins practice and qualification. One or two heats of around 15-20 mins and a grand final of 20-25mins.The afternoon session usually consists of a team endurance race, usually for 2 drivers per team and held over 90-100mins. Indoors varies a little more with practice laps, normally 6 heats per driver, then semi-finals - followed by a final race for the top drivers. All our events represent great value for money.

Q: Why are your events held on a Monday?
A: Simply because that is the day we can get the best deals from the tracks we visit. If we raced any other day, we would be looking at double the cost of our events.

Q: Do you run a championship through the year?
A: We do run a championship though the year. This takes place across all 6 of our outdoor events through the year. We split the championship into 4 different weight categories to make point scoring as fair as possible. Points are scored in the championship based on a drivers finishing position in the finals of the morning sprint finals.

Q: Do I need to enter the championship to take part in the sprint races?
A: Absolutely not. Anyone is free to enter our events. The championship is simply there for those drivers who attend the majority or our events through the year.

Q: Can I enter the championship?
A: Anyone eligible for our events can enter the championship. However, entries are only taken prior to the season starting. We don't accept championship entries once we are into the season of racing. Even if you are not a championship contender, you are still welcome to enter our events. We normally start accepting championship entries in January. Details will be on our website.
